Treatment: Natural/untreated

Green tourmaline, known mineralogically as verdelite, forms as unpolished, prismatic columnar crystals featuring distinct vertical striations and a characteristic triangular cross-section. Exhibiting a broad spectrum of hues from bright mint and forest green to deep emerald tones, these untreated specimens frequently display natural color zoning and retain their raw, earthy matrix. Prized by mineral collectors and custom jewelry designers alike, raw green tourmaline showcases strong pleochroism, shifting between lighter and darker shades of green depending on the viewing angle, while maintaining its durable, resilient structure.

Rough green tourmaline should be handled carefully to preserve its natural crystal structure, especially because raw specimens may contain internal inclusions and stress points. Clean it gently with lukewarm, soapy water and a soft brush, avoiding ultrasonic or steam cleaners, harsh chemicals, and sudden temperature changes that could cause fractures. Although its color is generally stable, excessive heat and prolonged intense sunlight should be avoided. For storage, keep each crystal individually wrapped or placed in a padded, fabric-lined compartment to prevent scratches, chips, and accidental impacts from other minerals.

Faceting & Design Recommendations:

Green tourmaline should be carefully examined before cutting for color zoning, pleochroism, transparency, inclusions, fractures, striations, and crystal growth, then oriented to maximize the richest face-up green color, clarity, brilliance, and yield; darker bottle-green material may benefit from a table parallel to the c-axis, while lighter or yellowish-green material may require a different orientation to strengthen color saturation. Brilliant, mixed, emerald, cushion, oval, round, and modified brilliant cuts suit clean rough, while heavily included or irregular material may be better suited to custom or freeform designs. With a hardness of 7–7.5, green tourmaline is durable but can fracture along internal stress lines, so use fine diamond laps (around 1200 grit or finer), light-controlled pressure, and gradual polishing while avoiding thin girdles, sharp corners, aggressive cutting, excessive heat, direct flame, and sudden temperature changes.

No treatments, no shortcuts, no filler. What you see in our listings is exactly what arrives at your door genuine natural material selected for its response, transparency, and cutting potential, packed and weighed with the same care a maker would expect.

It's a standard built for independent creators and collectors who value provenance as much as beauty the foundation of everything we sell.

Every parcel feels handpicked. The color response under UV was stunning, and knowing the material is genuinely untreated makes all the difference to my work.
